Symptoms of Broken Femur and Causes of It
Although it is hard to miss it when your femur is broken. Here are some signs to indicate a broken femur if you fall or injure:
- You experience severe pain
- Pieces of femur break through your skin and you are bleeding. This is known as an open fracture
- You can put weight on your injured leg
- Part of your thigh is swollen
- There are bruises on your thigh
- Pieces of your femur push up against your skin but don’t pierce your skin. This is known as a closed fracture
- Your injured leg may be shorter than your uninsured leg, and your injured leg may turn out, away from your body.
If you have a broken femur, you won’t be able to walk with the leg. You will at the very least need a crutch to walk. This is because you won’t be able to put weight on the leg.
One of the most common causes of broken femur is a car crash. It can also occur from a fall or a gunshot. Elderly people can break their femur simply from a fall from standing.
