Diagnosing Broken Femur

Healthcare provides diagnoses of broken femurs by examining your injured leg. They will also run X-rays [1] and computed tomography scan (CT) scans [2]. These tests help provide more details about your condition, such as the type of broken femur. Types of broken femur include:
- Transverse fracture: The break on your femur is straight across, in a horizontal line.
- Oblique fracture: the break goes across your femur at an angle
- Spiral fracture: the break spirals around your femur.
- Comminuted fracture: in this case, there are at least three broken pieces in your femur
- Open or compound fracture: your femur is broken and pieces of broken bone pierce your skin.
