Nail infection (paronychia)

Nam infection is one of the most common causes of nail pain. Infections usually result in redness and swelling of the finger. The cuticles are mostly affected by infections. You may also experience thickening of your nails, and draining if pus from areas around the nail. The most common type of infection in the nails is a bacterial infection. It occurs when an injury or opening on the finger, nail bed, or cuticle is infected with bacteria. While some nail infections leave on their own, some require urgent medical treatment.
