What are the risk factors for ganglion cysts?

Anybody can have a ganglion cyst. However, people between the ages of 15 and 40 are more susceptible to the condition. According to the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Women are also more susceptible to the condition than men. Ganglion cysts are a type of cyst that occurs more commonly in people who perform stressful activities with their wrists, such as gymnasts and weightlifters.
Other factors may make you more susceptible to a ganglion cyst. They include:
- Injury or trauma to the wrist or finger
- Repetitive wrist or finger activities
- Severe diseases, such as arthritis [1]
- Inflammation in a joint or tendon [2]
