Diagnosis

To diagnose right upper quadrant pain, a doctor needs to check the medical history and conduct a physical exam. Also, one or more of the following tests can be done to reach a final diagnosis:
– Urinalysis: to check for kidney stones or a UTI or to assess the function of the kidney
– A comprehensive or basic metabolic panel: to assess electrolyte levels, blood cell counts, or liver function
– Imaging tests: to check the inside of the abdomen or look for stones. Common options include CT scan, X-ray, or ultrasound
– Endoscopy: to look for stomach ulcers
– Stool culture: to check for pathogens in the stool[7]
