Who is likely to get a pinworm infection?

Pinworm infections can affect anyone, regardless of the age, gender, race, or geographic regions. Because of how tiny pinworms are, it can be difficult to avoid individuals or areas with the infection.
Even though anyone can get pinworm infection, there are certain groups of people that are more susceptible, including:
- Young kids who attend day care, preschool, or elementary school
- People who bite their fingernails
- children who suck their thumbs
- individuals who live in crowded accommodations, such as institutions or dormitories
- people who may not practice regular hand washing before they eat
- Family members or caregivers of people with a pinworm infection
