Pinworm Infection: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatments

Diagnosis for pinworm infection

The most accurate way to determine whether you have pinworms is using a tape test. In this test, the skin surrounding the anus will be pressed against the sticky, adhesive side of clear cellophane tape.

People who think they may have an infection should perform a tape test as soon as they wake up in the morning since pinworms frequently exit the anus while a person is sleeping. Before you do anything else, take the test since the eggs on your skin can be removed by bathing or using the restroom. Eggs should adhere to the tape if any are present.

Bring the tape to a medical professional who will inspect it under a microscope to check for pinworm eggs.

According to the CDC, it is best to conduct a tape test on at least three consecutive mornings to increase your chances of finding the eggs and getting rid of it.
