Proper hygiene and household cleaning are another effective way to to get rid of pinworm eggs.

  • Make sure everyone in the household, including the infected person, thoroughly washes their hands with warm water and soap before eating.
  • Encourage family members to take a shower and put on fresh underwear each morning.
  • Keep your fingernails short and tidy.
  • If you can, try to stop biting your nails.
  • If at all possible, advise the infected person to refrain from rubbing the anal area.
  • All clothing, towels, washcloths, and bedding should be washed in hot water. High heat to dry.
  • To prevent the air from becoming contaminated with pinworm eggs, avoid shaking your clothes and blankets.
  • Children shouldn’t bathe together since pinworm eggs could potentially spread to washcloths and bathwater.
  • Clean any potentially egg-containing surfaces, including toilet seats, floors, countertops, and toys, thoroughly.
  • Vacuum everything thoroughly.
