Who Is at Risk of Shin Splints?

Shin splints can happen to anyone, however, there are certain people that have greater chances of developing the condition. Some categories of people with greater risk of developing shin splints include:
- Athletes who play high-impact sports that put stress on their legs.
- Runners, especially those who run on rough and uneven surfaces or suddenly increase their running routine.
- People who march or walk a lot, such as member of the military
- Dancers
- People who have flat feet, very tigud arches or high arches. I’m this cases, your muscles and bones may not distribute or absorb forces from impact and loading forces.
- People who walk for long distances
- People who wear shoes that are not supportive
- People with underlying vitamin D deficiency, loss of normal menses (period), or an eating disorder.
