Spondyloarthritis – An Overview

Symptoms of Spondyloarthritis

Spondyloarthritis primarily manifests as pain, stiffness, and swelling. Bone injury is another possibility. The type of spondyloarthritis you have will determine where in your body you experience symptoms.

  • Pain from AS typically starts in the low back and buttock pain. It could advance to the neck and chest. Ligaments and tendons may also be affected. In rare cases AS may occasionally affect the lungs and heart.
  • Enteropathic arthritis [2] may cause pain in the spine, arms, and leg joints. It may also cause bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain due to Inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Juvenile arthritis [3] often causes pain in the pelvis, hips, ankles, and knees. The condition may also cause fatigue.
  • Psoriatic arthritis can impact the spine. When this happens, it’s known as psoriatic spondyloarthritis. It may also cause pain in the neck.
  • Reactive arthritis [4] may cause inflammation in the urinary tract, the joints, and the eyes. It can lead to inflammation of the spinal joints.
  • Undifferentiated arthritis [5] often causes symptoms similar to AS. This includes pain in the lower back, buttocks, and heels.
