Tingling in Hands and Feet: Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Pregnancy and Medication Use

Most pregnant women usually develop swellings in different parts of the body. Studies show that these swellings can exert pressure on some of your nerves, and cause tingling in your hands and feet. The tingling usually disappears after pregnancy.

Certain drugs have been linked to causing nerve damage, which causes you to feel a ringing sensation in your feet or hands. Tingling in the feet and hands are a common side effect of drugs used to treat cancer (chemotherapy) and HIV.

Other drugs that can lead to tingling in your hands and feet include:

  • Anti-infection medications, like metronidazole and dapsone
  • Heart or blood pressure drugs, like amiodarone or hydralazine
  • Anticonvulsants [7], like phenytoin
