Toenail growth after trauma
Hitting your toe on a hard object or dropping an item on your foot can affect your toenails. In some cases, your toenail might turn black and fall off.
Toenails grow slower than unusual after an injury or trauma, mostly from 6 months to 2 years.
After medical removal
Removing the nails surgically is one of the best ways to deal with severe fungus, frequent ingrown toenails or when a large portion of a nail is diseased or damaged.
After medical removal, it can take up to 18 months for a nail to fully grow back.
After psoriasis
Psoriasis is a disease that causes itchy, scaly patches on the skin. it may also affect the nails. Symptoms of nail psoriasis include:
- Discoloration
- Nail separation
- The blood beneath the nails
- Nail pits
Medications used to treat psoriasis (corticosteroids and biologics) [3] and topical steroids might improve nail appearance. It takes over 6 months or longer for toenails to grow back.
