For severe situations of the seizure, vagus nerve stimulation is known to treat partial or focal seizures that seizure medications do not treat. The VNS prevents seizures by sending mild pulses of electrical energy to the brain through the vagus nerve.
A surgical procedure to treat epilepsy seizures is also another option to consider when medications do not work. The main reason for this surgery is to prevent it from occurring or also limit its severity. In situations in which tonic-clonic seizure is poorly controlled, various complications can arise, which include the occurrence of serious injury during a seizure, depression, memory loss, and sometimes death.
