Drooling

People with cerebral palsy may lose control in the mouth area and leading to drooling, this is because cerebral palsy may affect the facial muscles used for chewing. Drooling in CP patients is not due to excess saliva production but the lack of coordination in the mouth. Sialorrhea is a common condition in CP patients, which is the partial loss of oral motor functions, causing saliva to spill in the pharynx through the middle to the bottom.
More, posterior pooling may cause serious problems of chronic aspiration that resulting in repeated infections and progressive lung disease. Also, the frequent wiping of the saliva on the chin is easy to cause skin irritation and brokenness.
About the psychosocial concerns for CP patients, drooling may make social a little bit embarrassed when they talk with other people because saliva may spray from the mouth and may lead to isolation and low self-esteem. [7]
