Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) – Mini Stroke Warning Signs

Double Vision (Diplopia)

In diplopia or double vision, the patient sees two images instead of one, that is, it is a symptom in which a single object is “understood” by the brain as if it were two objects.  [6] This is usually due to the occlusion of blood flow supply to the retina. When flow is restored, proper vision is restored. If TIA is not treated on time, it can go ahead and lead to per nonet damage of the retina.

Face Dropping

What is a drooping face? [7] Facial droop usually happens when the nerves of the face are damaged, stopping the facial muscles from functioning properly. The damage to the nerve can be either short term or permanent. It can also be caused by an injury to the brain segment responsible for sending nerve signals to muscles of the face. One side of the face may also appear uneven in the case of TIA.

Ask the individual to smile and check if one side of the face is drooping.

Although TIA itself does not lead to permanent and irreparable damage to the brain, it is a warning sign that denotes the possible occurrence of a stroke in the near future. People who have had TIA should talk to a doctor about measures to prevent strokes.
