The Treatments for Chronic Bronchitis

There is no cure for chronic bronchitis yet, but the disease can be handled and managed with certain lifestyle changes and medical treatment, especially when a diagnosis is made on time.

Medical Treatments

The treatments depend on the severity of your condition, they include the following:

  1. A bronchodilator is a type of medicine used to open the airways in your lungs, so it’s easier for you to breathe. The substance gets into your lungs through an inhaler, by breathing it in.
  2. Theophylline: This is a medication which is taken orally and takes care of breathing difficulties.
  3. In cases where a bronchodilator or theophylline [3] doesn’t help, your doctor might suggest steroids. A steroid medication can be used with an inhaler or in the form of a pill.
  4. Pulmonary rehabilitation: This is a program that consists of exercises, breathing strategies [4] and nutritional counseling which is meant to help make your breathing better and improve your general wellbeing.
