What Causes Bursitis?

Overuse and Repetitive Activity

Repetitive activity is an exercise that requires repetitive movements and it often causes overuse injuries including fractures, muscle sprains & strains, dislocations, ligament tears, tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and bursitis. Among which, tendinitis and bursitis are the most common types of overuse injuries. Though Athletes are more susceptible to this condition, people who have simple everyday actions of gardening, shoveling, raking, painting, skiing, scrubbing, and throwing could still suffer from repetitive motion injuries. In general, when practicing a repetitive movement that produces continuous friction of the tendon or muscle on the bursa and of the bursa on the bone, this repetitive movement can lead to the development of bursitis in such area. This can be observed, for example, after doing a recreational activity (doing a sport, a certain exercise, gardening, etc.) or a work activity (cleaning, typing on a computer keyboard, etc.). [4] There are also some treatment options for people with repetitive motion injuries such as anti-inflammatory and pain medicines, physiotherapy, steroid injections, and surgery.
