Risk Level

Your child’s doctor will classify the cancer after staging. Neuroblastoma is usually classified as either low, intermediate, or high risk. Your doctor will determine the risk based on:
- The stage of cancer
- The tumor’s histology
- The tumor’s biology
- Your child’s age
Studies show that low-risk and intermediate-risk neuroblastoma are more likely to be fully cured. High-risk neuroblastoma is harder to cure.
How to Treat Neuroblastoma
The treatment for neuroblastoma usually depends on your child’s age and the stage of their cancer. Your child’s doctor may recommend the following treatments:
- Radiation therapy
- Immunotherapy
- A stem cell transplant
- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
In most cases, people with neuroblastoma may need more than one type of treatment. Treatment is usually done in stages and may last for several years.
