Stages of Colon Cancer

Stage 2

In stage 2 colon cancer, the sickness is more advanced than stage 1, and has spread beyond the mucosa and the submucosa of the colon. [1]

Stage 2 cancer can be classified further into three stages, which include stage 2A, 2B or 2C.

Stage 2A

In this stage, the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes or tissues in close proximity to it. It reaches the outer layers of the colon, but doesn’t completely spread through the outer layers.

Stage 2B

In this stage, the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes. However, it has grown from the outer layer of the colon to the visceral peritoneum, [2] the membrane that puts the abdominal organs in place. [3]

Stage 2C

The cancer cannot be seen in lymph nodes [4] close to the colon. However, it has grown through the outer layer of the colon wall into vital organs or structures nearby.
