Is Ulcerative Colitis Curable?

Types of Ulcerative Colitis

There are different types of ulcerative colitis depending on the location of the large intestine affected. They include:

  • Left-sided Colitis: Left-sided colitis is the inflammation that occurs between the upper part of the descending colon and the sigmoid colon.
  • Ulcerative Proctitis: This form of ulcerative colitis occurs mostly in the rectum. Unlike the other forms of ulcerative colitis, it is less severe and easier to manage.
  • Extensive Colitis: This is the most severe form of ulcerative colitis. It affects the entire large intestine. It can lead to multiple flare ups if it’s not properly managed and death may occur.
