Symptoms of Dry Cough

Cough is dangerous because it serves as a signal of the presence of more serious inflammatory processes in the body. The symptoms of a dry cough depend on which organ of the respiratory system is affected. With inflammation of the pharynx, a dry cough is accompanied by unpleasant sensations in the throat and severe burning of the mucous membrane. Laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx) is characterized by a barking cough and a hoarse voice. If you do not take treatment for laryngitis, a severe cough can develop into bouts of choking. If these diseases are caused by fungi, the cough becomes chronic and prolonged.
In inflammatory processes in the trachea, coughing, among other things, is accompanied by pain in [6] the sternum. Inflammation of the bronchi and lungs (pneumonia) is characterized by a strong deaf cough, as well as a dull pain. Pleurisy (inflammation of the serous membrane of the lungs) is characterized by a dry cough and severe pain. Sometimes the pain is so severe that patients try not to inhale too deeply. In the initial stages, tuberculosis can be recognized by a mild but persistent cough. Finally, the worst disease – lung cancer – manifests itself as a chronic cough
The following symptoms are characteristic of dry cough:
-
The continuous will to cough;
-
Cough without expelling mucus;
-
The sensation of irritation, itching, and dryness in the throat;
-
The cough has a “dry” sound;
-
The chest feels “clean”, with no crackling or airway congestion;
-
Coughing can prevent peaceful sleep at night;
-
Usually, you feel tired when suffering from a dry cough and constipation.
Sometimes the dry cough remains for a few days, or even weeks, as a late symptom of a common cold. As mentioned, the symptoms of dry cough are different from the symptoms of cough with sputum, for example, congested chest, difficulty in expelling mucus through a cough.
