Crohn’s Disease: How Do I Get To Remission?

How Do You Get to Remission

Treatment is the best way to get into remission. It is almost impossible for Crohn’s disease to get better on its own without proper treatment. It can exacerbate when treatment is not given.

The doctors use the following, to get the disease into remission:

Drugs

The treatment plan given to a patient depends on how the disease affects the body. In some cases, people need one or more drugs to reduce their inflammation. Drugs used to treat Crohn’s disease are:

  1. Steroids such as prednisone (deltasone).
  2. Aminosalicicylates like mesalamine (asacol HD, delzicol) and other drugs that reduce inflammation in the digestive tract.
  3. Drugs that suppress the immune system such as azathioprine (azasan and Imuran), cyclosporine (gengraf, neural, restasis and sandimmune), mercaptopurine (purinethol and purixan) or methotrexate (rasuvo and trexall).
  4. TNF inhibitors.
  5. Antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. [3]

Doctors always advise patient to begin with mild medications and continue with stronger ones if needed.
