Symptoms in Babies

Some sounds may appear to be audible to babies with hearing loss while others may not. They may:
- Not be alarmed by loud noises.
- After six months of age, do not look towards the source of a sound
- Not have uttered simple words like “mama” or “dada” by the age of one
- Not respond when their name is said
Children with hearing loss who are older may:
- Say “huh” a lot
- Talk incoherently
- Be slower than other kids their age at learning to talk
- Not adhere to instructions
- Turn up the television or tablet’s volume
