Eczema and Hard Water – What’s the Connection?

Eczema in children

Although Eczema can be seen in people of any age, it is commonly seen in young children. Studies show that children between ages 5 and 11 who come in contact with hard water regularly are more susceptible to eczema.

More research needs to be done to know why eczema is more common in children. According to studies, infants experiencing a gene mutation that disrupts the function of filaggrin (a protein that maintains the integrity of the skin barrier) are more susceptible to eczema. This skin disorder usually goes away when a child becomes a teenager. However, in some cases, some people may experience eczema as adults or teenagers.
