Showering and Bathing Tips for Eczema

Avoid retinol and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA)

Retinol and alpha-hydroxy acids are too harsh for people with eczema. They can cause irritation and exacerbate skin infections. These chemicals are normally used to exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and making way for growth of new skin generation. Excess usage can cause damage to barriers of the skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids make the skin sensitive to sunlight, people are advised to use sunscreen while using any product that contains the acid. However, if you have eczema, you should stay away from products with alpha-hydroxy acids.

Doctors advise people not to use alpha-hydroxy acid with retinol [5], vitamin C [6], benzoyl peroxide, because it causes desiccation of skin, irritation, swelling and scaling.
