Showering and Bathing Tips for Eczema

Avoid staying in the water too long or using washcloth

There are certain chemicals that are added to water at home such as chlorine and limestone. Chlorine is not only present in pool water these two substances are harmful for atopic skin: chlorine [4] causes irritation and limestone dries the skin out. Experts advise to spend nothing more than 10 minutes in the shower. Long baths might feel nice on the skin, but this is the most common mistake made while managing eczema. Baths longer than 10 minutes dry out the skin and remove its natural oils. It is important to find an alternative, if you are a fan of long baths.

People with eczema should avoid using washcloths, loofahs, sponges and other products for washing up in the shower. These products can irritate the skin, cause swelling, redness and exacerbate any skin infection.
