How to Care for Your Contact Lens

  • You must wash your hands with warm water and soap before touching your contact lens or your eyes. You must also dry your hands properly with a clean towel, because residues from soaps, lotions, or chemicals may cling to the lens. This may result in irritation, blurred vision, and pain.
  • Wear your contacts as prescribed by your eye doctor. In most cases, your eye doctor will tell you to wear a schedule that matches with the type of lens you want. Do not wear contact lenses for a longer than usual period.
  • It normally takes about 10-12 days for your eyes to get used to any type of contact lens. You cannot develop a disease from or wearing a prescribed contact lens. However, you may experience discomfort, headaches, injury or headaches. You can speak to your eye doctor to change your contact lens if it is making you uncomfortable.
  • Ensure your contact lens is kept clean and stored in a safe place. The method of care varies for every type of contact lens. You may need a special type of product to take care of some lenses. You must always use the card product prescribed to you by your eye doctor.
  • You must properly and regularly disinfect your contact lens. You should also store them in a disinfecting solution, instead of a saline solution.
  • Do not sleep while wearing a contact lens. It increases the chances of developing an eye infection.
