Concussion
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that occurs after having a high impact injury on the head, such as a blow, bump, or jolt. The brain could be even twisted or swollen in serious cases, causing contusion (brain bruise), blood vessel damage, and brain nerve injuries.
A concussion can affect people in different ways and people may have the following symptoms immediately or several days after the injury. Alongside vision disturbances (double or blurry vision), individuals may experience other symptoms like loss of consciousness (LOC), amnesia, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, confusion, sleep disturbances, and mood changes. Generally speaking, symptoms would disappear in a few weeks but for some people, signs could last for a month or even longer.
The treatment of concussions is primarily focused on improving the symptoms. Please note that if the injuries are severe, other treatment procedures aside from OTC analgesics for headaches and rest may be recommended.
