Hyphema
Hyphema [4] is a condition that involves the collection of blood inside the eye’s anterior chamber. The pool of blood may extend over the iris and pupil, which blocks eyesight leading to decreased vision, blurred vision, or clouded vision. Other symptoms of hyphema are eye pain, elevated eye pressure, sensitivity to light, and bleeding in the eye.
Hyphema is usually caused by blunt injuries to the eyes such as sports, falls, fights, eye surgeries, eye cancers, eye infections, and intraocular lens problems. Generally speaking, the blood would be absorbed by the body without medication if it is a mild hyphema. In a more serious case, the treatment procedure for this medical condition may require the individual wearing a shield over the eye, resting, and making use of eye drops. Corticosteroids and cycloplegics are the most commonly used eye drops for the medical management of hyphemas. Doctors usually recommend raising the head of the bed for eye drain.
