Some RICE Treatments Can Help

RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevation) is a treatment protocol used for most sporting injuries. Some of the treatments may also be used to treat Achilles tendonitis. They will not reverse the condition, but it can bring relief and aid healing.
Resting can help take stress of the affected tendon and reduce pain. It also allows the swelling to subside. If your schedule permits you, you should avoid moving the tendon for two to three days. [5]
The inflammation may also be helped by applying ice. [6] This will improve blood flow and relieve pain. If you choose to apply ice, you should wrap it in a cloth or towel before pressing it against your Achilles tendon. Hold it in place for about 15 minutes. You may use frozen peas instead of an ice pack if that is available. Always make sure there is a barrier between your skin and the ice you use. Direct contact may damage your skin.
