Foot Pain – Symptoms and Causes

Morton’s Neuroma

Morton’s neuroma is a swelling (lump) of the plantar digital nerve, characterized by fibrosis of the nerve fibers. It is more frequent in the foot’s 3rd interdigital space (between the 3rd and 4th toes). [6]

The main symptoms are pain at the top of the foot next to the toes (metatarsals or bones of the foot), a sensation of “shock” or “stepping on pebbles.” The symptoms tend to worsen when wearing tight shoes or with high heels since, in these situations, the body’s weight is “pushed” forward, increasing the pressure that is exerted on the “front of the foot.” Pains also tend to worsen with prolonged gait, running, and sports.

This pathology is more frequent in women who wear inappropriate shoes, age over 50 years, and sportspeople.
