What Are the Causes of Achilles Tendinitis?

Achilles tendinitis is commonly caused by overusing the tendon during exercise or gradual wear and tear as you age. It can also occur due to arthritis [2], especially among middle-fed and older adults.
Achilles tendinitis may also occur due to the following factors:
- Playing sports, such as tennis, that require quick stops and sudden changes of direction
- Exercising without warming up first
- Wearing old or poorly fitting shoes
- Running too far, too intensely, or uphill too often
- Sudden increase in physical activity without allowing your body to adjust
- Wearing high heels daily or for long periods of time
- Straining the calf muscles during repeated movements.
