6 Common Treatments for Influenza

Decongestants

Nasal congestion is a common symptom of the flu. Several oral and nasal sprays can help you relieve this swelling and congestion. Nasal spray decongestants are effective, but you should not use them for more than three days in a row. If you overuse them, you risk worsening the congestion because it may recur.

Doctors sometimes prefer recommending saline sprays to medicated nasal sprays for nasal congestion. They work well and there is no risk of a rebound. Saline sprays work by dissolving the mucus in your nose. Oral decongestants like pseudoephedrine are also effective [9], but you should not use them if you are pregnant or have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
