10 Common Symptoms of Gallbladder Problems

Gallbladder Problem

A gallbladder problem is any condition [2] that alters the normal functioning of the GB. The gallbladder is a small organ that works with other digestive organs in the body to aid digestion. Most GB infections are due to gallstone obstruction in one or more of the ducts that transport bile from the organ to the intestine. The accumulation of bile can cause bacteria to develop, which can cause series of health complications, including gangrene, rupture, abscess, or a bloodstream infection. Gallbladder diseases include inflammation, infection, stones, or blockage of bile passage.

Types of GB problems include:

  • Cholecystitis: inflammation of the organ
  • Gallstones
  • Chronic acalculous: this is a severe condition in which the natural movements needed to empty the organ is not functioning well
  • Gangrene or abscesses
  • Tissue growth
  • Congenital defects
  • Sclerosing cholangitis
  • Tumors of the gallbladder and bile ducts
  • Polyps
  • Cancer
