6 Main Types of Hernia

Incisional Hernia

Incisional hernias [5] happen due to muscle weakness caused by surgery. An incisional hernia may happen shortly after surgery while the tear is healing or many years after. It usually happens along vertical incisions on the abdomen.

People over the age of 60 are more likely to develop incisional hernias. It can also happen in people who do strenuous exercise, put on extra weight or get pregnant before their surgery completely recovers.

These hernias usually worsen with time and may lead to complications if left unattended. Surgery is the only way to repair incisional hernias, but they can be hard to deal with.
