Common Symptoms of Hiatal Hernia

Chest Pain or Epigastric Pain

Epigastric pain [4] is pain or discomfort that can be felt near the anterior wall of the upper abdomen, just below the ribs. Epigastric pain is not uncommon and is not a cause for alarm in many cases. When the pain frequently happens after eating a large meal, it can be a symptom of many gastrointestinal problems. One of these is hiatal hernia. Epigastric pain often co-occurs with other symptoms of problems in the digestive system. These may include heartburn, acid reflux or bloating. While chest pain can happen in people who have hiatal hernia, you shouldn’t immediately assume your chest pain is caused by a hiatal hernia. It may also be caused by heart problems or ulcers. You should see a doctor to find out the cause.
