Groin Bulge or Groin Pain
Inguinal hernias are more likely to affect men. In most cases, the most obvious sign is a small lump or bump at the groin [3]. This bulge often appears on one side of the pubic bone where the groin meets the thigh. The lump is usually more noticeable when you cough. It may disappear when you lie down.
Some people may mistake the bump caused by a femoral hernia for an inguinal hernia. If you notice a sudden lump in your groin, you should see a doctor for evaluation.
Discomfort or pain in the groin area has a lot of potential causes. While muscle strain and ligament strain are the most common causes [4], your groin pain may also be due to the presence of an inguinal hernia.
Inguinal hernias can cause mild to serious pain in the groin. This pain usually intensifies when you cough or bend over to pick something. If the bulge in your groin is apparent, you will often feel pain concentrate around it.
