Inguinal(Groin) Hernia: What Are The Common Symptoms?

Scrotum Swelling or Irritability and Loss of Appetite

The scrotal sac, also caused scrotum, is the bag of skin that houses the testicles in men. This body part may swell or become enlarged due to a range of reasons, such as injury, fluid build-up, or an abnormal growth within the scrotum.

Inguinal hernias may cause the scrotal sac to become enlarged [5]. This is possible because the inguinal canal, through which the hernia penetrates, opens into the scrotum. You may notice a lump in the scrotal sac along with this swelling.

Hernias in small children happen as a result of incomplete closure of the inguinal canal present at birth. Infants who cannot yet verbalize their discomfort may become more irritable or have less appetite [6] than is typical of them.

Inguinal hernias in infants are often only visible when they are crying or coughing. In older children, the hernia becomes more prominent when they have stood for a long time. It may also show up while they are coughing or straining during bowel movements.
