Another major cause of hiccups is a sudden and unexpected change in the body’s temperature. Because hiccups occur when there are slight or little obstructions in the nerve pathway that leaves from the brain to the diaphragm. Hence, when the body encounters a sudden temperature change, hiccups may occur as a result of that.

One very common cause of hiccups is excitement. When you are suddenly excited as a result of getting good news and you react to it suddenly, you might take a quick breath at that moment. Now, when the air coming in hits your voice box too quickly, your vocal cords will close swiftly in reaction, causing you to have hiccups.
