The Similarities and Differences between IBS and IBD

Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Symptoms

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a disorder of the large intestine characterized by symptoms of abdominal cramps, pain, gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea. It is also known as spastic colitis, irritable colon and spastic colon. This condition simply refers to a group of intestinal symptoms occurring together, and unlike Inflammatory Bowel Disease, it does not increase the risk of gastrointestinal cancers. [2]

The common symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome include;

      • Abdominal pain
      • Bloating
      • Constipation
      • Diarrhea

These symptoms may go away after a bowel movement, but in some cases, they can continue for a longer period of time. The symptoms of IBS can significantly affect the daily activities of the patient and can result in anxiety and other inconveniences.
