Five Stages of Kidney Disease

Stage 3A + Stage 3B Kidney Disease

At this stage of kidney disease, your kidney may not work as well as it should, and there are some damages. The eGFR is between 45 and 59. Also, at this stage, symptoms begin to show and cause other health conditions. Some of the symptoms include; back pain, high blood pressure, fatigue, loss of appetite, sleep problems, and swelling of the hands and feet. Treatments to help slow down kidney disease at this stage include:

  • Medication for high blood pressure
  • Medication to lower cholesterol
  • Vitamin D supplements
  • Low salt diet

At stage 3B kidney disease, the eGFR is between 30 and 44 percent. The kidney damage at this stage starts to come up and, if not treated as soon as possible, would cause more severe complications. In addition to the symptoms of stage 3A, anemia, bone disease, and high blood pressure could also come up. You should see your doctor immediately for treatment, although the same treatment for stage 3A applies.
