Five Stages of Kidney Failure

Stage 1

This stage [4] of kidney failure is not easy to detect. The damage is mild, and the kidneys still function at nearly normal or above 90 percent efficiency. The GFR rate is also normal or high (GFR > 90 mL/min). People in this stage often show no symptoms at all. The discovery of chronic kidney disease at this stage is usually accidental. It normally happens when testing for other medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

At this stage, the creatinine or urea level in the blood may be a little above what’s normal or proteins may be found in the urine. After discovery, doctors may routinely check your blood protein or creatine levels to see if the disease is progressing.
