Stage 5

This is known as end stage renal disease (ESRD). At this point, the kidneys are functioning at less than 15 percent capacity or kidney failure [9] has set in. Toxins and waste build-up in the body and the risk of complications like stroke and heart attack is high.
People at this stage tend to experience breathing problems, low urine production, persistent itching, nausea or vomiting, back and chest pain, edema, muscle cramps and twitches, and changes in skin color. There are generally two treatment options: dialysis or transplant.
