What Causes Kidney Stones?

Digestive System Disorders

Bowel disorders that cause diarrhea reduce the fluid content of urine and cause the development of kidney stones. This includes inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis. Digestive disorders can also cause changes in the absorption of calcium and water which leads to an increase in the amount of crystal-forming substances in the urine.

Excess Salt Intake

Certain diets increase the risk of developing kidney stones. A diet high in salt (Sodium) is a popular cause of kidney stones. Sodium is a major content of salty snacks, packaged meats, canned foods, and several other processed foods.
