What Causes Kidney Stones?

Certain Medical Conditions

Some medical conditions like Type 2 diabetes, Gout, Hyperparathyroidism, and Renal tubular acidosis can lead to the formation of kidney stones. Type 2 diabetes causes an increase in the acidity of the urine which promotes the development of kidney stones.

Gout is a condition in which there is an accumulation of uric acid in the blood. The urate crystals can also form in the kidneys and are very painful. In hyperparathyroidism, the parathyroid gland produces excess hormones which increase calcium levels in the blood and promotes the formation of calcium stones.
