Diagnosis

This health condition is mostly diagnosed by a nephrologist (a specialist in kidney disorders). Firstly, various questions like how often the pain occurs, the types of symptoms occurring. The healthcare provider also checks the blood pressure and confirms if a generic test has been carried out. Then, in order to confirm the main problem, an ultrasound scan will be recommended. In some cases, the cysts are not visible in the ultrasound scan. It is then advised to perform other comprehensive scans like:

  • MRI: This is the use of strong magnets and radio waves to view the organs and structures of the body. This helps to detect the presence of the smallest type of cyst.
  • CT scan: This is the use of strong x-ray to view the details of the organs of the body.
  • Intravenous pyelogram: This is the use of dye to make the blood vessels and organs to show clearly on an x-ray.
