Presently, there is no particular cure for this medical condition. The best form of treatment for ADPKD is the proper management of the symptoms and following a healthy lifestyle. These treatments help to slow the rate at which the cysts grow.
- Medication: There are specific medications for different symptoms of this condition that prevents the cysts from multiplying. Tolvaptan (jynarque) [4] is prescribed for prevention of kidney failure. Antibiotics are also used to treat urinary tract. Pain relievers are also used to ease the pain from the affected kidney.
- Water: Drinking lots of fluids especially water helps to dilute the urine. The dilution of the urine will stop obstructive clots from forming. This process of taking water helps to cease the presence of blood in the urine and also helps to slow the growth of the cysts.
- Dialysis: this is done when there is kidney Hemodialysis helps to filter the blood outside the body while peritoneal dialysis makes use of the lining of the tummy to filter blood.
- Kidney transplant: this becomes the final option when the kidney undergoes renal This process is done by replacing a spoilt kidney with a donor kidney.
- Medications that help to reduce the pain from the kidney. Drugs like ibuprofen should be avoided in order not to worsen the case of the affected kidney.
