What Causes Leg Cramps?

Inactivity During the Day

Muscles need to be stretched regularly to make them function properly. The human body may be more prone to leg cramps at night if it is inactive for extended periods during the day. Physical inactivity like sitting for an extended period can cause your muscles to shorten over time, leading to aches. A person who is fixed on one spot for most of the day is at a high risk of suffering LC, and the symptoms usually start when you are asleep.

Someone who does not engage in any physical activity like exercising or stretching is also at a high at risk of experiencing nighttime leg cramps. When the body is set in an inconvenient position for a long period, it may cause LC. The muscles in people who are less physically active may be shorter, which may increase the risk of cramping or spasms.
