Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in Children: What to Know

Signs and Symptoms of Acute Myeloid leukemia in Children

These and many other signs and symptoms may be caused by childhood AML. Due to the increase in the leukemia cells present in the bone marrow, the production of normal blood cells is decreased to the barest minimum. Therefore, children may experience tiredness and sluggishness due to anemia, as a result of the lack of red blood cells.

Bruises may occur, and bleeding may take much more time to stop because of the small number of platelets in their blood. They may also suffer from infections due to the low number of normal white blood cells present. Other symptoms associated with it include:

  • Fever
  • An eczema-like [3] skin ras
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headaches

For situations in which the symptoms are looking like viral infections at first, with time there would be a clearer understanding of the situation.
