What Are the Causes or Risk Factors of CMML?

What causes the symptoms of CMML is when there is an overabundance of monocytes, and blasts crowds out healthy blood cells like the platelets, RBCs, and granulocytes. There is presently no known cause of CMML. Experts believe that the increase in the production of monocytes that is seen in people with this condition may be as a result of genetic changes. However, there are certain risk factors that contribute to having CMML, including;
- Being male.
- Being over the age of 60.
- Having been treated for cancer with chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the past.
- Having certain genetic changes, such as those in the genes SRSF2, ASXL1, and TET2.
These are leading factors that increase your risk of getting CMML. Your doctor will take note of these risk factors when making a diagnosis.
